ABOUT THE MUSEUM

The Museum of Giants

The Marine Megafauna Museum is the newest landmark at ICAR–CMFRI, dedicated to the study, conservation, and public appreciation of the ocean’s giants. From majestic whales and dolphins to elusive sharks, rays, and sea turtles, our exhibits showcase the extraordinary vertebrates that maintain the balance of our marine ecosystems.

Explore the Wonders of the Deep

As "flagship species" for conservation, these large marine animals are vital indicators of ocean health. Our museum brings their world to the surface through a sophisticated blend of displays and interactive exhibits.

  • Osteological Marvels: Intricate skeletal remains and articulated displays.
  • Scientific Repositories: Expertly preserved specimens and life-sized models.
  • Interactive Learning: High-resolution photography and digital educational displays.

Conservation & Research

Our dedicated team at ICAR-CMFRI actively monitors marine mammal strandings and sightings along the Indian coastline. The museum acts as a central hub for researchers analyzing these events, helping to identify primary threats such as bycatch, pollution, and climate change, ultimately guiding critical national conservation policies.

Educational Importance

Beyond preservation, the Megafauna Museum serves as a vital educational platform. We frequently host students, environmentalists, and the general public, using our exhibits to highlight the urgent need to protect these highly intelligent and vulnerable species for future generations.
